Contractor building, 1922, is amongst the robust 'modern buildings' that were designed in
the Ballard Estate at the turn of the century. The colonial stone structure was
facing imminent structural dangers due to broken slabs, its supporting stone
brackets, hand railings and balusters. The turn of the century building has RCC elements
in it that had corroded severely causing most of the damage. There were other problems
like the broken stone cornices and general disfiguration of the stone masonry enveloped in
the dust and other pollutants.
The structural
restoration involved use of RCC, polymer-bonding agents and corrosion protection
agents, mist cleaning and lime wash.
