Designed and constructed in 1936 by a
French architect , the main house of Raj Bhavan has load bearing brick construction
with jack arched roof slabs with a deliberate but innovative attempt to flatten the
ceiling using Chicken mesh reinforcement for the lime mortar filling below the curved
surface.
The building has survived more than 6
decades in excellent structural condition with almost no perceivable physical
deterioration.
The task was taken up to :
- Arrest the corrosion of the I' sections of
Jack arched roof slab by grouting existing cracks and providing anti-corrosive treatment ,
which is not checked in immediately could prove detrimental to the structural stability in
course of time.
- Manage the drainage of the rain water on the
roof terrace by correcting the gradient and providing proper water proofing screed in lime
