| Stone Cleaning of the Mujamjahi Market The Structure
The building was constructed in
late 1930's when the use of cement was catching up due to its fast setting and highly early
strength properties, but it has not replaced the lime completely.
The building sits on a triangular site and
the three octagonal towers define the three corners. The tower near the main road junction
is the tallest having a pavillion at the top. The remains of old water supply system are a
memory of those times sand need to be incorporated in the conservation master plan.
The Process
Before starting the work an introductory
meeting was organised by the Authorities of Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad. The
shopkeepers were introduced to the kind of activities that were to be undertaken for the
stone cleaning process.
Because of the concerns from the
shopkeepers it was decided to carry out the work at night to reduce inconvenience to the
activities of the market. This has put undue strain on project timings and the activity.
The work got delayed and project went beyond schedule time limit because of many reasons
viz. rains, shopping timings etc.

Participatory meeting of the local people and
the munipal corporation before starting the work. |
