Ravi Gundu Rao & Associates - An introduction to the firm

We are an organization providing heritage building conservation services around the country. The organization is born under this new name on 30.11.2001, after the group of conservation architects and engineers decided to leave M/s Associated Cement Cos that they served under the name of Architectural Conservation Cell for a decade with distinction, and have regrouped under my leadership. Incidentally the said Cell of ACC was formed and directed by R.G.Rao as the Manager and were involved in some of the major restoration efforts that took place in the period. M/s ACC as a part of their restructuring had decided to withdraw from all their non-cement activities and we thought it best to find our ways. However the research and consultancy directorate where we worked for a decade has left a scientific temperament in our approach.

Thus it is correct that we include in our list of achievements the works done under Architectural Conservation Cell (now closed for business) of Ms/ ACC Ltd.

Immediately after starting on our own we were able to be given task of restoring the near century old Vaidyarathnam P S Varier’s Memorial Museum for the Arya Vaidya Sala, Kottakkal that is now completed, as well as being the Conservation Consultants to the MS University Faculty of Arts heritage building in Vadodara, Consultancy services for restoration of Raj Waada and Lal Baug Palaces in Indore MP Govt, to the dept. of Archaeology & Museums.

These works of conservation including the Master Plan for Victoria Terminus (now Chhatrapathi Shivaji Terminus) and Western Railways HQ heritage building in Mumbai, Jayalaxmi Vilas Palace in Mysore, Bombay House, Traditional Holkar Waada’s in Maheshwar-MP, Mount Chapel, The Basilica of Bom Jesus, Saligao Church’s in Goa are documented on CD and reports, and a presentation can be arranged upon prior request.

www.saveheritage.com houses the same and we request you to spare some time to peruse the same.

Our strength lies in our in depth technical knowledge of historical buildings and their behavior, and honest application of internationally accepted conservation repair techniques. We are the pioneers in the use of lime and lime products in restoration projects and have produced and used huge quantities of lime mortar of various mix proportions and ingredients, having trained scores of local masons, in diverse conditions. Recycling all useable old materials in our works and use of compatible (mostly traditional) materials is another area of our strength. Although many of us are specialists in many other professions we do not take up any other works apart from conservation projects so as to keep our focus sharp.

Our approach and application has found highly appreciating clientele, some of whose testimonials are enclosed separately in the projects section.
